Readmission to the College

Readmission is considered a privilege and not a right. The following procedures apply to those who were previously matriculated at SUNY Potsdam and who desire readmission (whether they have attended another institution or not):

  1. Visit the “Undergraduate Readmission” webpage at www.potsdam.edu/about/offices/registrar/undergraduate-readmission to submit an online readmission application. Forward official transcripts from any other colleges attended (if applicable). Contact the Registrar’s Office at (315) 267-2154 with questions.
  2. In order to ensure students are able to register for appropriate courses and be prepared to resume their studies, applications should be completed at least three weeks before the start of the requested semester of return. Readmission requests made after three weeks before the start of the semester will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Provost or designee, in consultation with the Student Success Center. Note: Crane students may be required to re-audition prior to readmission to the College if more than one year has elapsed since their last enrollment at Crane.
  3. Decisions on the application for readmission will be sent to the applicant shortly after all necessary forms have been completed and any obligations to the College have been resolved.
  4. Requirements for graduation in effect at the time of the student’s initial matriculation are not binding on the College for more than six years after the date of initial matriculation. If it has been more than six years since their initial matriculation, the student’s records will be evaluated under the current requirements at the time of readmission. Such reevaluation may result in students being required to take additional courses or retake certain courses.
  5. Readmitted students will resume the same academic standing they had when they left the College, except that previously dismissed students will be placed on Academic Probation.

Readmission for Students Who Were Dismissed or Who Left While on Probation

Readmission is considered a privilege and not a right. Students who were academically dismissed or who left college while on academic probation and seek readmission should visit https://www.potsdam.edu/about/offices/registrar/undergraduate-readmission or contact One Stop. In order to ensure registration for required courses and be prepared to resume their studies, students should initiate this process eight weeks prior to the start of the semester. Readmission requests made after eight weeks before the start of the semester will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Provost or designee, in consultation with the Student Success Center. No applications for readmission will be accepted less than three weeks prior to the start of the semester.
