COMM 301 - Media Law I 3 Credit(s)
This course examines the legal dimensions of modern journalism and strategic communication. Students are introduced to theories of the Constitution, which provide a basis for the critical and systematic analysis of case studies and arguments. Students study current, relevant mass media law, emphasizing precedent-setting court cases in the United States. Topics addressed included law and society; First Amendment theory; speech and conduct; prior restraint; libel; privacy and misappropriation; intellectual property; and pornography/obscenity. Fall only.
