MUCT 411 - Computer Music Composition 3 Credit(s)
Art of composing with electronically generated sound. Major works and independent compositions. Open to all students with instructor permission. This course serves as an introduction to the world of electronic music: it’s history, practitioners, relevant concepts. and modes of expression will be surveyed in a dynamic, hands on class atmosphere that is predicated on interactive tutorials, ripe classroom discussion, and active listening. Each week, we will survey important composers, thinkers, and inventors who helped shape this world of electronic expression. Supplemented with ample listening examples of critical works in the repertoire, we will explore and reinforce each concept with structured lab work. Coursework covers audio recording, digital audio workstations, studio techniques, and both digital and analog sythesizers. As warranted.
