This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to learn the art of clarinet reed making and adjusting, to examine mouthpiece design, and learn the fine art of basic refacing techniques, to troubleshoot mouthpiece and reed issues, and to address proper facings and reed strengths, particular to a given student. Listening assignments will be discussed in terms of rhythm, performers, tone, expression, breathing, articulation, style, etc. The class is intended to prepare students for actual reed and mouthpiece tailoring in a teaching and performing environment. For clarinet students only. As warranted.
