BIOL 370 - Health Coaches II

This course is offered in collaboration with Canton Potsdam Hospital and builds on the concepts students learned in Health Coaches I. After a few weeks of additional training in motivational interviewing techniques, students work directly with a CPH patient to make lifestyle changes that will reduces the risk of readmittance of that patient to the hospital thus improving patient outcomes. Students share the patient interactions with other students throughout the semester and thus learn “best practices”. Student are required to write weekly reflections on their interactions with their client as well as a final overall reflection on their experiences. Instructor permission required.
