This course is a survey of the history and culture of the Celts. Description of the prehistory and geography of Europe will place Celtic populations in context. Topics will concern religion, gender, warfare, economics, art and other cultural aspects of Celtic societies. The final portion of the course will follow the diminishment of Celtic cultures, by the Roman Empire and later nation-states, and their continued survival along the western fringe of Europe.
