@MUCP 306 - Advanced Bassoon Reed Making 1 Credit(s)
This course is intended to deepen the student’s understanding of the reed-making process, developing skills from Introduction to Bassoon Reed Making. The course will focus on starting the reed-making process from tube cane, learning to use the reed machines available in the Reed Room, as well as how to do some of the steps without the aid of a machine. The course will focus on proper technique for the following processes: splitting tube, pre-gouging, gouging, profiling, and shaping. Additional options for forming blanks and finishing the reed will be introduced. Additionally the course will cover how each step in this process influences the finished reed. Students will have the following reed-making equipment available for their use in the Crane Reed Room: cane splitter, gougers (2), as well as a variety of shapers. Fall and Spring.
