@MUCP 304 - Advanced Oboe Reed Making

This course will cover the reed-making process beginning with tube cane and ending with the finished reed. The course will focus on proper technique for the following processes: splitting tubes, pre-gouging, gouging, profiling, and shaping. Additional options for forming blanks and finishing the reed will be introduced. Additionally, the course will cover how each step in this process influences the finished reed. Students will have the following reed-making equipment available for their use in the Crane Reed Room: cane splitter, gougers (2), as well as a variety of shapers. Fall and Spring. Numeric
