GEOL 201 - Field Methods in Geology

A comprehensive survey of standard geological field techniques and data analysis. This course serves as an introduction to collecting geologic data in the field. Students learn to use basic geology field equipment (hammer, hand lens, etc.), read topographic and geologic maps, make first-order rock descriptions, recognize and distinguish between primary features and features produced by deformation, and use a Brunton compass to measure both planar and linear features. Field intensive. $55 field experience fee assessed by Geology Department.

Prerequisite(s): GEOL 101 or GEOL 103 or GEOL 125.
