GRED 567 - Elementary Social Studies Content and Methods

This course examines the contributions of social studies to the elementary school program. It also examines a variety of methods and materials appropriate for use in instruction in elementary school social studies. The course includes major definitions and structures of the social science disciplines (anthropology, economics, geography, sociology, and political science) and history; the roles of both funded knowledge and conventional wisdom in elementary school social studies curriculum development, the various components of instructional planning in social studies; and evaluation in social studies of elementary school pupil performance.
