Online education has its roots in distance education, and we’ll explore the history, research, theory, practice, and tools of this ever-growing modality of teaching and learning. We’ll take a hands-on, minds-on approach as we explore the factors that affect online learning, including quality (measurement, evaluation), literacies (traditional and digital), technologies, accessibility, and inclusion. We assess online learning resources and apply research and best practice to create online learning resources for traditional or digital literacy development. Tools for learning will include generative artificial intelligence and digital media. All required course materials are open educational resources (OER) and provided via our learning management system at no extra cost.
