COMM 272 - Rhetoric of the Black Church

The purpose of this course is to explore the rhetorical roles, impact and legacies of African American churches in U.S. societies. We will focus on the verbal as well as nonverbal communication patterns found through U.S. Black churches, such as the various styles of dress, traditional/conservative teachings, gospel music and spirituals, church-led social movements, and the multiple and unique methods and styles of praying and preaching.
