Local Government: Grant Writing

Earning this microcredential demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of local government in the development of public grant applications. Learners will complete an asynchronous, two-course sequence covering local government institutions, public policy, and the grant-writing process. The first course explores the structure, function, and policy processes of state and local governments within the American federal system. The second course offers an applied learning experience focused on identifying and writing grant applications, with particular emphasis on how institutional context, the writer, and the situation influence writing forms and norms.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
Local Government: Grant Writing students will be able to:
- summarize the roles, institutions and policy processes of local governments in the context of the US federal system.
- recognize the goals and resources of local governments as reflected in public statements, planning documents and published budgets.
- identify grant funding opportunities to support the work of local government.
- generate the content of a public sector grant application.
