English - Applied Writing Track, B.A.

Emphasizing writing (COMP) with integration from communication (COMM) and literature (LITR), this track trains students for roles and careers in technical writing, journalism, marketing, and other fields requiring professional and creative writing expertise.

Graduate Preparation: Provides an excellent springboard for further studies in journalism, professional writing, technical communication, digital media, or creative writing programs with an applied focus.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

English B.A. students will be able to:

   • demonstrate competence to write and/or speak clearly in a variety of frameworks and genres.
   • demonstrate the ability to think critically, creatively, and/or construct coherent arguments using claims and reasons supported by credible sources.
   • demonstrate comprehension of literary theories, how to apply those theories to different genres and mediums, and how those theories express diverse cultural experiences, awareness, and ideas.
   • demonstrate an understanding of periodic, national, formal, and/or cultural historical traditions.

Program Requirements


Foundational Core: 7 Credits


Applied Writing Track Requirements: 22-26 Credits


Capstone Experience: 3 Credits


Notes:


  • Students graduating with an English major (B.A.) must complete the major requirements with at least a 2.0/S grade in each course.

Total Credit Hours Required: 32-36
