Geology, B.A.

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

The geology curriculum gives students an understanding of Earth history, the processes that shape our dynamic planet, and a geologic perspective on how to make human interactions with the planet clean, safe, and sustainable. The Bachelor of Arts degree is registered as a Licensure-Qualifying Geology Program with the New York State Education Department and contains the same core classes as the Geology B.S. degree.  However, it is ideal for students who are pursuing a double major with another B.A. degree field because it requires fewer cognates and does not require a capstone experience.  Students in this degree program must complete 33-34 credits of required core courses, six credits of electives, and 12 credits of cognate sciences (a year of chemistry and Calculus I).

Program Requirements

Core Required Courses: 36 Credits

Electives: 6 Credits

two or more of the following

Cognate Requirements: 8 Credits

Grade Requirements

Minimum grade of 2.0 is required for all courses in the major and for cognates. Students may not S/U geology courses.

Total Credit Hours Required: 45-46 Plus 12 credits of Cognates
