The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is the professional undergraduate degree in the Visual Arts. The BFA adheres to the College’s strong general education in the liberal arts while offering increased breadth and depth in the studio arts. The primary goal of the program is to foster students’ mastery of visual arts by giving them further experience in the studio and advanced work in art history and art theory.
Admission is by portfolio review; reviews are conducted in both the fall and spring semesters each year. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 to be admitted and to remain in the program.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
Visual Arts B.F.A. students will be able to:
• create an original body of artwork that is exhibited professionally.
• execute professional writing and research techniques.
• demonstrate advanced critical analysis of original artwork.
• demonstrate an advanced knowledge of current or recent art history.

Required Courses: 28 Credits
Studio Requirements: 16 Credits
Four courses with at least one three-dimensional course
Studio Concentration: 12 Credits
Select one concentration area:
Level II Studio Elective: 4 Credits
Select one level II Studio Elective from:
Senior Experience: 7 Credits
Note(s)
- B.F.A students may count a maximum of 60 credit hours of undergraduate work in any one subject code towards the 120 hours required for graduation.
- Students may not elect the S/P/U grade option for any course in the major. A minimum of a 2.0 grade is needed in each course.
