The Educational Technology Specialist, M.S.Ed. is a fully online 30 credit-hour program that prepares students to be leaders in K-12 schools. Throughout the course of their studies students will hone their interpersonal and technology skills and work collaboratively with K-12 faculty and staff to create and manage highly engaging learning environments. For students holding an initial teaching certification, this degree leads to recommendation for an additional New York certification as an Educational Technology Specialist, and satisfies the academic requirements for Professional Certification. The program meets the standards established by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and is CAEP certified. Students can start in the Fall, Spring, or Summer, and can complete the program in 2-3 full time semesters. Part-time study is also available.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

Educational Technology Specialist M.S.Ed. students will be able to:

   • self-assess their Educational Technology Specialist Professional Dispositions using a rating scale and explain their choices in written form.
   • identify an organizational problem, then design a 7-14 hour adult training program to address the problem, a core skill in a career as an Educational Technology Specialist.
   • document their daily experiences and complete a weekly one-page reflection in their internship journal that documents their 100-hour internship.
   • work collaboratively with their site supervisors to design, deliver, and evaluate a technology workshop based on an identified organizational need.

Additional Information

Students will be working with computers and computer applications throughout their program of study. As such, it is required that all students own or have regular access to a personal computer that can be used for classes. No preference is given to Windows or Macintosh (although it should be noted that Chrome OS, Android OS, and iOS are not capable of running all applications needed for this program). Students will also need access to a virtual reality headset, and there are a limited number available for semester sign-out.
