    This course is an introduction to dance history and dance appreciation. The course develops one’s ability to look at and understand dance as a vital art form. The purpose of this course is to provide students with an overview of dance-as an art form, a cultural activity, and a mode of creative expression. This course will introduce students to some of the key people, events, and concepts that underlie the development of Western Theatrical Dance-primarily ballet, modern dance, and jazz dance. Students will be involved in (a) the viewing, discussing, and critiquing of dance in live and video formats, (b) reading and writing about dance (c) physically exploring elements of dance, and (d) making speeches and other public oral presentations about dance.   • @DANC 389 - Musical Theatre Workshop

    This performance-based course is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to develop and improve their performing and professional skills as they relate to musical theatre repertoire. The students will explore and stage scenes from a variety of standard musical theatre repertoire, culminating with an end of the semester black box style performance in which costume, scenic, and lighting elements will not be included. The course is a required part of the Musical Theatre minor for music majors. Music and Theatre majors in the Musical Theatre minor should register for MUCP 389 or DRAM 389 respectively. Spring.

  

  • DANC 390 - Special Projects: Dance Composition

    This course functions in two ways: 1. A course in which students choreograph works for the Student Choreographers’ Concert, and 2. An individual program of study in choreography, designed by the student. The program is to be approved and supervised by a member of the dance faculty. Instructor permission required. Fall.
