GRDG 691 - Practicum 2 Grades 5 to12 3 Credit(s)
The purpose of this course is to apply theories, knowledge, activities, and skills from previous courses in the program as a literacy specialist in training. Working under the supervision of a literacy specialist mentor, candidates will assess literacy needs of students, participate in collaborative planning, design appropriate intervention programs based on assessment, and consider the impact their work has had on the students they work with in grades 5-12 (including students with dyslexia and/or those in compensatory programs). The practicum will include a minimum total of 40 clock hours in a school-based setting, supplemented by course meetings and content. Candidates will also further develop their skills as literacy leaders by leading and participating in professional study groups and designing and presenting a professional development workshop.
Prerequisite(s): GRDG 655 and GRDG 605 and GRDG 690
