Art Studio, B.A.


The Art Studio major is designed to provide students with a broad-based education in the traditional fine art studio areas as well as to introduce relevant historical, theoretical and critical issues. Studio Concentrations are available in ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. These require four upper-division courses in the studio area of choice. A Studio Concentration is suggested for those students wishing to enter graduate programs or seeking a career as a professional artist.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

Art Studio B.A. students will be able to:

   • create original artwork with advanced proficiency.
   • execute visual communication of an idea or concept.
   • demonstrate critical analysis of visual elements and design principles.
   • demonstrate a basic knowledge of art history.

Program Requirements


Required Courses: 25 Credits


Studio Requirements: 16 Credits


Four courses with at least one three-dimensional course

Studio Electives: 8 Credits


Two courses that are a level II and level III in a single concentration area:

Upper Division Elective: 3-4 Credits


3-4 Credits of upper division coursework (300 or above).

Note(s)


  • Students pursuing a B.A. degree may count a maximum of 50 credit hours of undergraduate work in any one subject code towards the 120 hours required for graduation.
  • Students may not elect the S/P/U grade option for any course in the major.  A minimum of a 2.0 grade is needed in each course.
